What to stop doing before a BBL treatment:
While BBL is the safest IPL treatment on the market in the hands of a skilled operator, any form of IPL therapy is not safe for use during pregnancy.
After a BBL treatment, the skin will be photosensitive, so it is important to decrease your exposure to direct sunlight for at least 5 days before you treatment, and avoid direct sunlight entirely for 1 week following your treatment.
Discontinue use of aggressive topicals like retinols, or glycolic acid 3-5 days before your treatment. You will be able to continue regular use of these skincare products 1 week after your treatment, unless otherwise directed by your technician.
What makes BBL the most powerful IPL treatment on the market?
1. Sapphire crystal - These have extremely high thermal conductivity. This means that while the energy is transferred through the lens to the skin, the crystal can simultaneously cool the skin preventing heat from transferring beyond the intended target and reduce thermal damage (burns)!
2. In motion capabilities - Rapid pulse in motion is a way to reduce the energy deposited to a single area, while maintaining high efficacy. You can cover large areas in far less time, feel cooler and reduce the chance of burns even more!
3. Ability to control all 3 variables independently: While there are many technical advantages of the BBL the choice to give an operator complete control might be the most important. There are 3 independent variables for IPL. Joules (energy), Pulse width (the rate it deposits the energy), and temperature of the lens. Many IPL device manufactures link the variables together. The reasoning is to reduce the options that can come with the combinations and permutations hoping to achieve simplicity for those with less training. But when you simplify the options you reduce the solutions and one would be forced to fit patients into only a small number of choices you have to treat them. Even if a patient magically fit within those limited parameters, an adjustment would be needed for their very next treatment, because their skin's condition will have changed after the previous treatment.
…Just like how there would be a lot of blisters out there if everyone of us wore the exact same shoe size, IPL treatments cannot achieve optimal results with a one-size-fits-all solution.
